With Sport Huancayo facing Caracas in Copa Sudamericana action and Ayacucho taking the week off, every other club played in the Primera Division in midweek.
Sport Rosario began the round by, somehow, winning again. They beat Universidad San Martin at the Alberto Gallardo and temporarily topped the table, until the FPF licensing committee confirmed the four-point deduction due to “a failure to meet financial obligations.” Erick Rossi was magnificent at the back for Los Huaracinos, completing several interceptions and last-ditch tackles to help Rosario keep a clean sheet. Carlos Olascuaga scored a sizzler of a goal in the 74th minute to clinch the victory.
Universitario ended their nine-game winless run after defeating Binacional in a game where key man Andy Polar was taken off with an injury for the visitors. Anthony Osorio broke his scoring drought as well thanks to an incredible volley from a difficult angle to win the game for Los Merengues.
La U’s crosstown rivals Alianza Lima couldn’t replicate the result, as they were easily dispatched, 2-0, by Melgar in Arequipa with the hosts moving ever so close to the top of the table.
Sporting Cristal also failed to win, drawing 0-0 in Cajabamba against UTC. The result puts the Torneo de Verano winners on top of the Apertura with Alianza Lima on 15 points.
At the bottom of the table, Sport Boys continue their winless run, while Union Comercio kept up their strong run of form with a 1-0 win over Real Garcilaso at home. Comerciantes also failed to win but they at least got a point. This was a 1-1 draw at home to Deportivo Municipal.
